MY FUTURE SELF

When I met my future self for the first time it was confusing. I had just returned from 40 solitary days in the wilderness of Wyoming and Utah in 1973. There, a frail, walleyed, asthmatic and painfully awkward child (me) of 23 had become a man through unmeasurable courage. 

I knew that my previous plans for ending my life were no longer tenable. If the mountains had not killed me (having been given many opportunities), it had to mean something. 

So what to do? 

It was one morning soon after returning from my vision quest to Durham North Carolina that I woke up, heart pounding, from a powerful dream.
In the dream a robed Alchemist had just won a gladiatorial duel with a black masked opponent in a huge crowded arena. After the hard fought battle he raised a radiant white flower to the heavens. When I awakened, I knew this man was me - the future Alchemist Carl Jung said I was to become. 
And this man was still beside me(in Alchemical Dream-work we can enter the dream and speak to its archetypes while awake) 
So I asked him: "If I am to live as an Alchemist...how??" 

His first command was: "Get to California! We won't succeed in North Carolina." Further instructions were ongoing. By following the path he and my other guides were setting out for me, we created a brand new career path for many thousands of people over the last 40 years.
A career as a spirit guide based transformer! 
And we accomplished this against the enormous odds of a hostile "profession" of counselors and therapists who tried repeatedly to shut us down. After all, as one of them clearly stated, "If you give people inner resources what happens to OUR careers?" 
The State Office of Post Secondary Education even attempted to close our vocational school down for defying the counseling professions attempted ban on this work. (1988) 

The atheism of modern American psychology has also been a constant annoyance. I have been contemptuously dismissed from meetings with staff of hospitals, clinics, and schools of therapy by "experts" who regard inner guide therapy as a foolish fleecing of the gullible masses! (No actual research was involved. Atheism is after all a Religious doctrine for these folks) 

And the hostility of the "Christian" Religious community, while predictable, has also presented obstacles. My own father (a Southern Preacher and a hero of mine) threatened me with jail if I took this work back to his neighborhood. After all, many Southern Christians, steeped in a racist cult of blood sacrifice that has little resemblance to Jesus' teaching, are convinced that anything not on their straight and narrow path comes from the devil. This hostility is especially annoying as Jesus,a Jewish rabbi not a Christian, is a dear friend who has performed miracles of healing so many times in my groups, even raising a participant from the dead! (that was awkward but convenient. Who you gonna call for this resistant client? No heartbeat. Cold and gray. Not a psychiatrist or a hypnotist I think) 

So the hostility from that "Christian" quarter is especially annoying! 
These are but a few of the struggles I have faced in bringing Alchemy to the world. 
If my future self had not been there every step of the way along with Jesus, Carl Jung, Randal Churchill and so many others I could not have made this career path happen for so many! 

My future self kept me believing. Kept me trying. And gave me the tools I needed. 

Yes dear reader those times were tough. And my challenges were perhaps bigger than those you face. Maybe your life path is predictable and easy by comparison.
