In our Monday night guided journeys I will be speaking of how we communicate effectively with both the angelic and totemic (earth spirits) guides. This method of communication is called "channeling."
Edgar Cayce was a trance medium whose channeled messages about healing were amazingly effective. So much so that half a century after his death his Institute and teachings live on.
He was called "the sleeping prophet" because he literally slept while the angelic presences brought their messages through his voice to an eager audience. When he later awakened he was as eager as his followers to study the transcripts of his "sleeping trance" for he remembered nothing.
The "sleeping trance" is an extraordinary phenomenon but I have found it of little use in therapy.
More common and far more useful from a therapeutic perspective is "active imagination". A skilled Alchemist takes the client on a guided visualization in which the client remains fully conscious and shares with the therapist the journey, the guides appearance, and their verbal messages. All of these are embedded in a dream like shamanic trance which Carl Jung called "active imagination". The therapist's role often includes questioning and testing these guides to determine their effectiveness and value for the clients presenting problems. And
Methods are used by the skilled Alchemist to help the client establish daily access to this guides wisdom and power.
But, the most powerful form of channeling is "full body" possession. While we in the west often think of "possession" as a sort of demonic thing ("the Exorcist" comes to mind) the concept of being literally "possessed" by a powerful and benevolent angelic or divine being is a very useful one in spiritual traditions throughout the world ... when the proper safeguards are in place.
The trance dancing of the African Santeria priestess to the wild drum beat of the jungles and the whirling of the sufi dervishes join with the ancient shaman channeling his wolf spirit before the fire. All of these forms of channeling allow us to actually embody the phenomenal healing and transformational energy to the world around us in a way simply unavailable through other methods.
When the inner healer takes over our hands to adjust the mitral valve it saves lives. Like mine.
When the guardian angel takes over the body in dance we generate powerful voltage. firestorms and floods are stopped. I've seen it.
(But I won't pretend to have "done it!")
When we channel these powers through our bodies, our countenance, our voices, we can change the world.
