PART 1 - SOLVING THE PUZZLES OF THE UNVERSE Some of you know I am a physics hobbyist. And I have major dyslexia. Like Albert Einstein. And, like me, Albert Einstein was never a stickler for complicated math. What Einstein did instead was perform simple but ingenious thought experiments that solved major discrepancies in Isaac Newton's physics. And created a totally new vision of space, gravity, and time. Without which our modern science and technology could not exist. (He left his friend Lorentz and his math genius first wife to do the math) One of Einstein's more famous thought experiments: his closed elevator falling through space. Another was 2 balls falling on a vast trampoline called gravity. But three giant puzzles now have arisen in modern physics for which we need Einsteins help. These puzzles have proven so Extraordinarily unsolvable that after 30 plus years of research they remain mysterious. And worse ... they practically upend every theory modern cosmology has developed up til now to explain our world! Let me take a moment to outline each of these three dilemmas which utterly confound modern physics. And then I'll show a simple thought experiment I developed that may possibly solve them all. ... In one shot. But because Dr. Einstein and I are both dyslexic ... we'll just leave the math to someone else! 1) COSMIC MICROWAVE BACKGROUND: The red shift visible in distant galaxies seem to indicate that all galaxies are flying away from each other, As space expands from an apparent single point of the universe's origin. The "big bang". We even have the baby pictures of the initial Bang: The cosmic background radiation or "CMB". But there are different estimates for the expansion rate of the universe, and thus its age since the big bang, are off. Way way off. The new Webb telescope ... capable of seeing back to nearly the beginning of our universe ... is creating even more confusion as it discovers huge galaxies floating in space just 300 million ... or so ... years after the big bang. Does that seem strange? Well ... would a midwife find it strange if a baby emerged from its mothers womb dressed formally and inquiring while twirling a generous mustache about when the ceremony of birth is to be over? Because he needs a drink? This was what the Webb telescope was showing us. The baby pictures of the CMB were confusing. This was bizarre. Yeah, Strange indeed! It's almost that bad looking through the WEBB telescope! 2) DARK MATTER: Astronomers see evidence of huge clouds of " dark matter" that represent six times the mass of all of the visible stars, gases, and dust in the entire universe. Yet this dark matter neither emits nor absorbs light at any frequency. Worse, no one has been able to identify a SINGLE dark matter particle despite 20 years of INTENSE searching in experiments all over the world costing billions of dollars. 3) DARK ENERGY: another mysterious bit of abracadabra that nobody can explain ... is now estimated to be 70% of the mass/ energy of the universe and is growing daily in influence. And physicists don't know what it is! Even though it's presence is universal and powerful. So. Let's summarize with the following: In Physics we have no consistent knowledge on how the big bang started our universe ... or when. And physicists have been unable to find or even identify 96% of the matter/energy that obviously seems to fill our universe. Beyond calling it "dark"! PART 2: WHAT THE SILVER SURFER TEACHES US ABOUT DARK ENERGY Like we physicists all learned from old Albert Einstein, I did a thought experiment. I climbed onto a photon emitted by a galaxy far far away. I mean far away. 13 billion light years. And I rode it through the vast space between galactic clusters. Like the Silver Surfer I rode at the speed of light. he's a Marvel Comics superhero who is involved in the birth and death of the universe and who surfs the subtle intergalactic streams of the cosmic web. Marvel Comics... Stan Lee... ca. 1980. Just 25 years before science discovered the cosmic web. But way down here in Planck Space where we photons move, I noticed a kind of sponginess ... an uncertainty ... within the vacuum of space. And although these virtual fluctuations are so faint, my surfboard might cross an entire galaxy without anyone noticing much effect... in the vast spaces between galaxies my surfboard was being influenced by this spongy "vacuum pressure", even occasionally rocked by a virtual particle ... all with extremely faint but statistically predictable results sapping my surf board's energy. Because the speed of light in a vacuum must remain unchanging, my light Beam was losing energy - not by going slower, but by shifting toward the red. The Silver Surfer across megaparsecs is turning pinkish. Then I realized something: This will create the precise doppler effect, the red shift ... that we so easily mistake for the signs of an expanding universe! This was the best real evidence we have of the "big bang". So while the "red shift" remains an excellent distance marker for our maps of the universe, this new explanation of it leaves our universe no longer expanding. Very possibly in the "steady state" Einstein predicted in his theory of general relativity before Hubble's red shifts caught his eye. And it explains why all of our efforts to explain the big bang, even to get the date right, seem to fail. microwave background radiation (CMB), supposedly a "baby picture" at the birth of our universe, with its confoundingly monotonous tone, already doesn't seem to prove the age of the universe. Perhaps It can't. Because instead of being the echo of some "big bang" whose equations we have never come close to solving, the famous CMB could simply be the temperature of matter interacting with Planck Space itself being measured here. The temperature of particles and their wakes reflecting in infinite waves across the foamy realm on which my photon / surf board rides. Meanwhile my silver surfer ... still travelling in the interstellar vacuum, is hitting some TRACKS! Mud churned up in the Planck Space by a passing huge galaxy. The galaxy itself had moved on, but it's huge bulk has left a muddy wake in its path in the Planck Space. Wow! This feels just like "dark matter". As every galaxy churns up the planck space it leaves a gravitational well within the vacuum of space that acts like a large mass: "dark matter". Here's some proofs from the "Dark Matter" files: A close perusal of merging galaxy clusters in which the "dark matter" clusters have been colored show this pattern... it looks as if the galaxies are leaving a "wake" of "dark matter" on the space behind them as a result of their rapid movements. Fritz Zwicky lacked the visual clarity of the Hubble Space telescope. So Zwicky could theorize the actions of dark matter but not track them with the precision we now have. Vera Rubin's famous analysis of galactic rotation also makes sense if in the process of galactic contraction/ formation a galaxy digs itself a pit in planck space. A pit rimmed by the glowing torches of globular clusters to mark the perimeters of that ghostly "dark matter" sphere that this once giant galaxy once dug into the void Eons ago. And which remains as a potent gravity well within the vacuum ... the memory foam ... that is Planck space. So we don't need "dark matter" to explain either of these processes. Just a clearer understanding of the way gravity influences Planck Space. Meanwhile in intergalactic space ... My silver surfer having just hit a massive dark matter skid, I'm sent wildly off track.... to arrive billions of years later at a telescope on earth. Where Saul Perlmutter, the genius discoverer of dark energy, spots the Silver Surfer as proof of dark energy. Because the Silver Surfboard that is THIS photon always travels out of a giant supernova explosion (in the Marvel comic story) from a galaxy far far away. But Saul, please don't let me rob you of your well deserved Nobel Prize, my silver surfer has a different message for you! "dark energy" is a theoretical mathematical model required to resolve questions about the distances to galaxies far, far, away. As physics realigns our understanding of the "vacuum pressure" operating in the megaparsecs of intergalactic space , Dr. Perlmutter, perhaps you will see how Planck Space may have distorted the intensity of the light message my silver surfer bears from a supernova 13 billion years old. And with your extraordinary skills of observation you may be able to place today's "Terra incognito" ... 70% of the matter/energy in our universe!! DARK ENERGY ... In its proper place, with phlogiston, and Aristotle's orbital epicycles ... in the museum of old science. While your measurements of my Silver Surfer could already be giving us the precise measure of the influence of vacuum pressure across 13 billion light years of distance. Astronomers may be confused by vast clouds of unknowable darkness. But the Silver Surfer of my and Einstein's imagination saw what only a Cosmic Surfer riding a beam of light could see. It's just possible that the 96% of our universe that cosmologists cannot detect, this "dark" stuff, doesn't exist at all. It was all a ghost in the equations! A ghost we can call Planck Space. And the huge problem of cosmology : the big bang...and an expanding universe may also be a ghost! And a deeper study of "Planck Space" " will be the answer to these dilemmas. These are not just my theories. Indeed, each of the elements described above in the Silver Surfer's journey has been described by faint voices from the distant vacuum of non peer reviewed, non funded, scientists. But this is very difficult to research when the dominant paradigm is ...well ... DARKNESS ITSELF. So science. We have spent 30 years. Billions of dollars. With No trace of an answer for 96% of our world ... but darkness. Maybe the Silver Surfer can show us the way. Maybe he has to.
