At 68, I am a healthy mountaineer who spends hours most every day climbing, running, hiking. Just lucky to have good genes, one might suppose. And one would be supposing wrong.
No, I didn't have a strong constitution. Instead, I spent most of my life from birth to 40 suffering from chronic sinus congestion, back pain, asthma, chronic bronchitis, hypoglycemia, and of course, crippling rheumatoid arthritis. Chronic food and chemical allergies left me dizzy and confused. Only with the long term aid of my inner healer and my body wisdom guide did I become the healthy mountaineer I am today. And I am still amused to see the shocked looks on the faces of those who knew me then when they see me now. My favorite: "David!! You can HEAR me!" So I have come up with some additional advice for those who would like to bring their health back just as I did. 1) Admit there is a problem If you pretend or minimize your condition, you aren't fooling anyone, especially your friends and family. I spent years pretending I was not hard of hearing . When my friends told me I needed a hearing aid, I wasn't listening. Finally I spoke to my inner healer about my pain. She healed my hearing in one week . You must admit, as I did, to yourself, your friends, your family, your doctor, that you are hurting, before anything can be fixed! 2) Don't accept the limiting beliefs and prognosis of your doctor or your family My Doctor told me I would never walk normally again when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. My Mother confirmed this for me: "Your aunt has been crippled with this disease all her life, and she is married to a doctor!" Next year I showed up for a family reunion at my Aunt and uncles home. Free of symptoms, I was eager to describe my miraculous recovery. Instead I was disowned by my extended family with the parting curse from my uncle the doctor: "It will come back, worse, because you won't listen to medical advice!" My aunt eventually died in the wheelchair. I went on to mountaineering. Good thing I ignored that medical advice! You don't fit the doctors' statistics. You can heal by exploring and clearing the underlying causes of your illness activating and empowering your inner healer. The doctors treatments can help, but they know nothing about these things. So you don't need to believe them! 3) Instead of searching for doctors and healers all over the place, contact your inner healer first, to learn what you need to do, and who you need to trust When I was searching for the cure for my crippling arthritis, I had a hard time sorting out the reams of contradictory and confusing advice I was getting. And it took me a long time to contact my inner healer and learn to follow her advice. Now my clients can move so much more quickly than I did, because they have the help of a trained Alchemist in finding and using these resources. Your body is unique, as is your illness. No one can be the expert for your unique situation better than an inner resource like this. 4) Once you receive instructions on diet, appropriate medical treatments, and a daily self care meditation, including spiritual surgery, do it daily! I have seen my share of instant miracles , but the clients who get the best results are those who practice this work every day with their inner healer! It is that persistence that has been responsible for all of the improvements my health has made. 5) Cultivate a relationship with your body wisdom guide. This guide is like your personal trainer, helping not only to eat the best foods for your body, but to move your body joyously in physical activity. No, not making you do your gruelling workout with clenched jaw...but teaching you the irresistible joys of moving, dancing, skipping through life. My body wisdom guide, Huck Finn, teaches me the fun of climbing, exploring, and chasing deer. 6) See a Doctor! And Listen to your doctor! I know not all doctor's advice is helpful. (see the stories above) But medical advice has also saved my life! Without my doctor's advice I would probably be dead, of untreated high blood pressure, which I was simply unaware of. A friend of mine found his stomach ache was...a ruptured appendix! Though he hated modern medicine, it saved his life. Doctors are hard working and dedicated professionals, even if their understanding of degenerative illnesses is limited, there are many times when they have valuable assistance. Who knew that red yeast rice could control high cholesterol as effectively as statin drugs, without the dangerous side effects? My doctor, that's who! 7) The great physician Hippocrates once said "Let your food be your medicine." While most modern physicians have forgotten this important principle of medicine, you must remember it. This means everything you place in your mouth should be a medicine for healing. Your inner healer can guide you in the diet that is critical for your recovery and health. But what to do during holidays when temptation is high The answer is: One half, with full enjoyment Half of a Christmas cookie. Half a piece of cake. Then I chew each bite with a rigorous devotion and enjoyment of my inner child's happiness rather than stuffing those cookies down like a "Cookie Monster". Yeah that was the old me. A whole bag in ten minutes, with little pleasure and loads of holiday guilt. But now, one half a cookie becomes a glorious half hour of feasting. Just as often though, as I pay rigorous attention, I find the taste unpleasant and I throw it away. This way I effortlessly lost 7 inches off my waist. And I still have more enjoyment than ever of treats. 8) Surrounding yourself with family and friends is one of the best ways to preserve your health and vitality Indeed it is the one factor that all thriving centenarians have in common: They are surrounded by loving family and friends. But it may be time to do a frank evaluation: Does this set of family and friends with whom you surround yourself truly support your growth? Do they encourage the development of your authentic self? If not, if your family reunions are instead something you dread, with a family that is unloving, quarrelling, or intoxicated, maybe it is time to spend your holidays with a family or friendship circle that supports your health and recovery. Note that I walked out of my entire extended family when they denounced my healing and my work. My inner family supported me in finding a loving circle of friends to spend my holidays with! I have not regretted it for one minute. (I have since reconciled with many of my family members, who now support my work) Give yourself the gift of a circle of unconditional supportive friends. You deserve it!
