I was but a wee lad at 19 years old. A sophomore at Duke University and a math and science major, my conventional life path had just been turned upside down by some earth shaking spiritual experiences. One evening I decided to smoke my new medicine pipe out in the pine woods behind my parents house while on a weekend at home.
It was only after the pipe was out and the ceremony begun that I heard some strange whispering voices overhead. I looked up in the purple twilight to see three owls forming a perfect triangle above my head. And their strange whispers were nothing like the hooting of owls with which I was familiar. Even stranger I was understanding every word they said. And it was very annoying. They obviously didn't think I could understand them. They were not talking to me but to the Guardian angel Michaela who was somehow standing above me. " Come sister. Is this little wimp the best you can do? What chance does this little weenie have to fulfill the Great Work?" Okay. Okay. Just asking. Maybe he has what it takes. With our help. " Moments later the three owls flew away. But it was many years later that I began to understand the Great Work that was expected of me. And years later still before I understood how pathetic my chances actually were of bringing spirit guide therapy to the world. Scrawny and sickly, wall eyed, and near sighted, hard of hearing, stoop shouldered , sickly with asthma and arthritis, and suffering serious social anxieties, I was a poor choice in many ways for this task. Now when people see me with my body strong and healthy as a mountaineer, my eyes and hearing corrected. (All thanks to Somatic Healing), my social anxieties mostly past, it's hard for people to understand the vast distances i had to climb to achieve My mission's success. Or how much I have needed my circle of shamanic sister owls who, despite it all, would not give up on me. Thank you Michaela, White Feather, and those sisters of spirit who have sustained my "mission impossible"!
